New Paper in Biochemistry
Congrats to Henry on his first lead author paper from the Marty Lab in Biochemistry. Henry looked at how lipid properties and EGCG (a molecule present in green tea) affect alpha-synuclein interactions with nanodiscs. Alpha-synuclein is a protein important in Parkinson's Disease, and Henry's data revealed that EGCG blocked membrane disruption but not association. Congrats!

Using Native MS to Study New Drugs for SARS-CoV-2
PhD student Julia Townsend has been hard at work on a collaborative project with Prof. Jun Wang in the UA College of Pharmacy to look at new drugs bound to the SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease with native MS. The first paper was just published in Cell Research.

National Science Foundation CAREER Award
Congratulations to Prof. Marty on receiving an NSF CAREER award! This will fund new work in the lab on using native MS to study interactions of membrane active compounds such as antimicrobial peptides with lipid nanodiscs. It also supports ongoing development of UniDec. New tutorials for UniDec will be coming soon. Finally, it also supports development of the ASEMS-V program to engage Veterans in STEM Research in collaboration with the University of Arizona ASEMS program and the VETS center. Stay tuned...
